Best Dust Extractor for Onsite Work: 2025 Expert Review
DR Joinery
Expert Joiner & Kitchen Specialist
Fitting a custom kitchen involves a surprising amount of onsite machining. Whether it is scribing a filler panel to an uneven Victorian wall or cutting worktops to size, dust is inevitable. However, leaving a client's home covered in a fine layer of sawdust is simply unprofessional.
For years, I've tested various extraction solutions. The difference between a standard shop vac and a proper dust extractor with power take-off is night and day. Not only does it keep the site clean, but it also prolongs the life of your power tools and protects your health from harmful MDF and hardwood dust.
In this review, I've selected three extractors best suited for onsite work: a budget-friendly option for lighter tasks, a professional M-Class unit for serious joinery, and a 110V solution for strict site compliance.

Specs vs. The Real World
The Spec: "Power Take-Off (PTO)"
"The vacuum starts automatically when you pull the trigger on your sander or saw."
This is a game-changer for workflow. However, always check the wattage limit of the PTO socket. Whilst fine for sanders and jigsaws, plugging a heavy-duty table saw into a small extractor can trip the fuse.
The Spec: "M-Class Certification"
"Filters 99.9% of dust, legally required for silica and wood dust."
On commercial sites, this is mandatory. For domestic kitchen fitting, it is highly recommended. If you are cutting MDF or oak onsite, an L-Class or standard vac simply isn't safe enough for your lungs.
My Top 3 Recommendations
Three options to cover different needs and budgets
Evolution Power Tools R15VAC Vacuum Cleaner Wet and Dry Vac

Evolution Power Tools
For the price, the Evolution R15VAC is a brilliant little runner. It features power take-off, which is rare at this price point. It's lightweight and easy to carry up tight staircases in York's older terraces, making it perfect for snagging lists or smaller installation jobs.
The Good
- Excellent value for money given the features
- Includes Power Take-Off for auto-start with tools
- Lightweight and highly portable
The Bad
- Not M-Class certified (caution advised with MDF)
- Smaller capacity fills up quickly during heavy routing
- Short hose compared to premium models
Installer Tip:
Since this has a smaller capacity, I recommend using it primarily for your sander or jigsaw. It keeps the weight down and is easy to empty into a larger bin at the end of the day.

Trend
Trend is a brand recognised by every joiner in the UK. The T35 is a serious piece of kit for the professional kitchen fitter. Being M-Class certified, it safely handles the fine dust generated from MDF panels and hardwood worktops, ensuring client satisfaction and installer safety.
The Good
- M-Class rating ensures safety with hardwood and MDF dust
- Automatic filter vibration prevents clogging and loss of suction
- Generous 7m hose allows you to reach across large kitchens
The Bad
- Significantly higher investment
- Bulky unit can be tricky in very small utility rooms
Installer Tip:
The filter shaker on this is brilliant. If you are routing drain grooves into solid timber worktops, the fine dust usually clogs filters instantly. This unit shakes the filter automatically, keeping suction constant without you having to stop and bang the filter out.

Vacmaster
On many renovation sites and new builds, 240V equipment is strictly prohibited for safety reasons. This 110V Vacmaster solves that compliance headache whilst still offering M-Class filtration. Ideally suited for larger kitchen projects where you're working off a transformer.
The Good
- 110V compliance for strict health & safety sites
- Huge 38L capacity means less emptying
- Push Clean Filter System maintains airflow
The Bad
- Requires a yellow 110V transformer to run
- Physically large footprint
Installer Tip:
This unit uses a 'push clean' system. Get into the habit of blocking the hose end and pressing the clean button every time you switch off. It forces air backwards through the filter, dislodging the cake of dust and keeping it running like new.
