Best Cordless Jigsaw for Woodworking: 2025 Expert Review
DR Joinery
Expert Joiner & Staircase Specialist
When fitting a bespoke staircase, accuracy is paramount. Whether you are scribing a tread to fit a bowed Victorian wall or cutting a complex profile for a new newel post, the jigsaw is often the unsung hero of the tool bag. However, trailing a cable up a half-built staircase is a recipe for disaster.
Transitioning to cordless tools has changed the game for site joinery. No more hunting for power sockets in renovated hallways or tripping over extension leads. But not all battery-powered saws are created equal. Some lack the grunt to cut through hardwood like European Oak, whilst others vibrate so much you can't follow a pencil line.
In this review, I have analysed three cordless jigsaw options available for woodworkers this year. I've categorised them into a budget-friendly starter kit, a higher-end option for efficiency, and a problem-solving lightweight model perfect for tight spaces.

Specs vs. The Real World
The Spec: "Dust Extraction Efficiency"
"Manufacturers claim their dust ports keep the cut line completely clear and the workspace dust-free."
Unless you are connected to a high-end industrial extractor, most cordless jigsaw dust ports are mediocre. On site, expect to still do plenty of blowing to see your pencil line, especially when cutting MDF.
The Spec: "Max Cutting Depth (100mm+)"
"The box says it can cut through 100mm timbers easily."
Technically it can, but the blade deflection will be massive. For anything thicker than 50mm, especially hardwoods like Oak or Beech, a jigsaw blade will wander. Use a circular saw or bandsaw for thick stock.
My Top 3 Recommendations
Three options to cover different needs and budgets
Upgraded Brushless Electric Jigsaw Tool, 400W 3000 SPM 21V Cordless Jigsaw

Generic
This is an exceptionally low-cost entry into cordless woodworking. Priced typically under £25, it includes a battery and charger, which is unheard of for major brands. While I wouldn't use it for high-end joinery all day, it's a capable backup for DIY tasks or quick softwood cuts.
The Good
- Incredible price point for a complete kit (tool + battery)
- Brushless motor should offer better lifespan than brushed equivalents
- Includes a guide ruler for straighter cuts
The Bad
- Generic brand means aftermarket support may be limited
- Unlikely to match the precision of professional trade brands
- Battery life (1500mAh) brings limitations for heavy use
Installer Tip:
This saw has a high stroke speed. When cutting delicate veneers or plywood for stair risers, use a down-cutting blade and the lowest orbital setting to prevent splintering the face grain.

WAFOHSR
Sitting at a significantly higher price point, this model aims for the professional or serious enthusiast market. With a robust build and variable speed up to 2700rpm, it is designed for more controlled, deliberate cuts required in finish joinery.
The Good
- Variable speed trigger allows for slow, precise starts on cuts
- Deigned for portability and ease of manoeuvre in tight spaces
- Brushless motor ensures efficient power usage
The Bad
- Price is steep compared to the budget options
- Brand recognition is lower than standard trade names
Installer Tip:
When fitting Oak handrails, precision is key. Use the variable speed to start your cut very slowly to establish the line without jumping, then increase speed once the blade is fully engaged in the timber.

AUTOFU
This unit strikes a balance as a 'problem solver' due to its lightweight ergonomic design and tool-less blade change. Weighing just 1.48kg, it is ideal for overhead work or awkward positions, such as cutting spandrel panels underneath a staircase.
The Good
- Very lightweight at 1.48kg, reducing fatigue during long days
- Tool-free blade change is essential for swapping between wood and metal blades quickly
- 4 orbital settings allow you to switch between fast rough cuts and slow fine cuts
The Bad
- Lightweight can sometimes mean less stability on very thick timbers
- Battery system may not be compatible with other major tool brands
Installer Tip:
Utilise the 4 orbital settings correctly. Set it to '0' when cutting tight curves or metal to prevent the blade from bending. Set it to '3' only when ripping through softwood where finish quality doesn't matter.
